Music Therapy In The News

In addition to our profession’s Journal of Music Therapy and Music Therapy Perspectives, consumers can learn about Music Therapy  from many media sources as well.  IAMT would like to highlight music therapy and music therapists in the news:

Music therapist, Hana Jones, is featured on Naperville television
Channel 17.  Hana directs a chime choir at Edward Hospital in
Naperville for stroke survivors.  After a stroke, sometimes the most
basic methods of interacting with others becomes next to impossible,
but an up-and-coming form of therapy has struck a cord with one local
hospital. Doctors and therapists at Edward Hospital in Naperville are
treating their stroke patients with music therapy.

Ben Folds, well-known musician and music therapy advocate continues to
spread awareness of music therapy as a vital medical tool.  He
attended the national music therapy conference in November and he will
be testifying in Washington D.C. on the benefits of music therapy in
hopes that its services will be better covered by health insurance.
